Visiting A Museum
An art museum is a place where artworks are collected and displayed. You can find art museums in cities and towns all over the world.
When you visit an art museum, remember to
Walk slowly through the museum. Pause at the artworks that catch your eye. Read information about them.
Look closely at the artworks, but don't touch them.
Think about what each artist's message might be.
Listen carefully to what the docent tells you about the artworks.
Speak quietly, but don't be afraid to ask questions.

Looking at Art
You may see artworks in museums, in books, or on websites. When you look at an artwork, you can follow these steps to better understand what you see:
Describe: Look closely at the artwork, and tell what you see. How would you descibe the artwork to someone who has not seen it?
Analyze: Look at the way the artist organized the parts of the artwork. What part of it catches your eye first?
Interpret: Think about the idea or feeling the artist may be expressing in the artwork. Sometimes the title of an artwork can help you understand the artist's message.
Evaluate: Use your observations about the artwork to form an opinion of it. Do you think the artist was successful?
