Plaster Samuria Mask

I will learn about symmetrical balance by creating a mask with same on both sides or asymmetrical balance by creating a design that is bigger on one size and smaller on the other side.
I will learn about form by creating a mask.
Materials: Plaster cloth, face mold, tempera paint, pencils.
Day 1 of 2
Instructional plan:
Engage: Quiz on form in nearpod.
Explore: Look at the Samuria mask describe what they see and discuss what the function of the mask might be.
Explain: Compare and contrast Samarai masks with modern day video game masks.
Elaborate: Students form their mask on a plastic mold using plaster cloth activating it with water. Students think are they designing a full face mask or a half mask. What animal might they take their influence on to create their mask. Day 2 Students add color to their mask.
Evaluate: Students share their masks and talk about their designs and colors.
Day 2 of 2
Instructional plan:
Engage: Learn about Space https://safesha.re/3o9j and how to create it in their mask.
Explore: Look at their mask ask if they added enough plaster to create a full mask and write thier name on the back of the mask.
Explain: Discuss adding model magic to create details like horns, lips, teeth, and eyebrows.
Elaborate: Students paint their masks thinking about designs.
Evaluate: Students share their masks and talk about their designs and colors.
