I will learn about symbols and variety by creating ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics in their name.
I will learn about space and how to incorporate it in art.
Resources/materials: paper, pencil, metallic markers
Day 1
Engage: Watch a video about the Hieroglyphs
Explore: Discuss how hieroglyphs are based off of sound.
Explain: Talk about how to carve their name into a cartouche. Show how to add their hieroglyphs to a boarder.
Elaborate:
Students will learn about print making carving a cartouche stamp with their name and add a hieroglyphics boarder.
Day 2
Engage: Watch video about value.
Show how to carve a foam print cartouche.
Explore: Show how to print a foam print cartouche.
Explain: Talk about what they need to finish their picture.
Elaborate: Students carve their cartouche name they made on the second day into a foam print. Students print their stamp.
Students cut out their photo of themselves wearing a Pharaoh headdress and glue it onto their picture. Students finish their border if they haven't already done that.
